An autumn evening in a working estate garden — a hundred candles, one willow tree, and vows said almost in a whisper.

The garden

The estate has stood since the 1600s, and its garden keeps that kind of time — slow, deliberate, unimpressed by trends. Sofia and Marc wanted a wedding that belonged to it: small, candlelit, and unhurried enough to hear the leaves.

The vows

They chose to say their vows quietly — really quietly, almost privately — with their guests gathered close on garden benches. We worked at a distance with long lenses, because some moments should be witnessed rather than attended.

The candlelight

By eight the garden was all flame and shadow. We photographed dinner by candlelight alone — no flash, nothing added — because the estate's darkness was part of the design. The film from this evening is mostly firelight and laughter, and it is among our favourites.
