Leila's veil caught in the sea wind at golden hour

A Valoré story — Cape Peninsula, Spring

Leila & Thomas

Married where the mountains walk into the sea — a spring wedding of salt air, fynbos, and a veil that refused to behave.

The place

Some couples choose a venue. Leila and Thomas chose a coastline. They wanted the Atlantic in every frame — the white noise of it under the vows, the smell of it in the flowers, the long light it throws across the peninsula in October.

The wind

The Cape Doctor arrived halfway through the ceremony, as it tends to. The veil lifted like a sail, the celebrant held her notes down with both hands, and everybody laughed. Years from now, that wind will be half of what they remember — it is certainly half of what we photographed.

The evening

As the light went blue they walked the shoreline alone, shoes in hand, while the reception glowed above. Later there was dancing, and smoke from the fire, and a moment — recorded, thankfully — when Thomas dipped Leila so low her laughter reached the water.
